Ebooks at MWC

Editor's Note: You may recall my series of posts leading up to CES. I'm planning to write similar posts for other conferences and trade shows when appropriate.

Mobile World Congress is being held next week in Barcelona. I'm not going, but I did look over the exhibitor list to see who would be exhibiting an ebook reader. I haver a short list of companies.

Texas Instruments - TI announced a new ebook development platform and a new OMAP system-on-a-chip at CES. I asked and was told that the EDP will be demoed at MWC.

Freescale - You might recall that this chipmaker had a booth full of ebook readers at CES. I don't know exactly what they will have at MWC, but I think their booth is worth a visit.

Marvell - see Freescale

Acer - This PC maker has dropped a few hints that it will release its own ebook reader. I think you should stop by and ask them about it.

Nanjing Wanlida - I have not yet heard back from this company about the ebook reader they have on their website. It's the only device developer that I know of who might be bringing their own ereader.

Qualcomm - This is another chip maker who has their chips in a lot of products. They're going to have their Mirasol screen tech on hand as a demo.

Nate Hoffelder is the founder and editor of The Digital Reader: "I've been into reading ebooks since forever, but I only got my first ereader in July 2007. Everything quickly spiraled out of control from there. Before I started this blog in January 2010 I covered ebooks, ebook readers, and digital publishing for about 2 years as a part of MobileRead Forums. It's a great community, and being a member is a joy. But I thought I could make something out of how I covered the news for MobileRead, so I started this blog."
