EDO E600

I actually saw this reader at CES, in what I'm pretty sure was the touchscreen manuafacturer's booth. Unfortunately, I they wouldn't remove it from the display case. It's a rather interesting looking digital reader.

The E600 is a product of Shanghai EDO Technologies, and it's their first ebook reader. They also launched an ebookstore in addition to the digital reader. Currently the ebookstore is only in Chinese, so I would guess that EDO is not planning for an international release. Here are the specs:

  • 6" E-ink screen
  • Wacom
  • FBReader
  • SDHC card slot
  • Wifi
  • TTS
  • handwriting recognition
  • MP3 player
  • optional EVDO/CDMA/3G
  • open to further development

Nate Hoffelder is the founder and editor of The Digital Reader: "I've been into reading ebooks since forever, but I only got my first ereader in July 2007. Everything quickly spiraled out of control from there. Before I started this blog in January 2010 I covered ebooks, ebook readers, and digital publishing for about 2 years as a part of MobileRead Forums. It's a great community, and being a member is a joy. But I thought I could make something out of how I covered the news for MobileRead, so I started this blog."
