Switzerland considers fixed price books law

Buchreport.de is reporting that there will be a conference on 2 March to discuss enacting price controls for books and other periodicals in Switzerland. This would likely extend to imports as well as mail order. The goal of usch a law is to protect smaller booksellers against web retailers.

The Swiss Booksellers and Publishers Association has taken a postion on this issue, but my German is too rusty to understand the colloquialism used.

Everything quickly spiraled out of control from there. Before I started this blog in January 2010 I covered ebooks, ebook readers, and digital publishing for about 2 years as a part of MobileRead Forums. It's a great community, and being a member is a joy. But I thought I could make something out of how I covered the news for MobileRead, so I started this blog."
