Will the Apple iPad Be a Netbook Killer?

I think this is going to be the last time I post on iPad surveys. This one doesn't really tell us anything, but what caught my attention was that Morpace asked about netbooks, not just ereaders. From the press release:

According to the Morpace study, approximately 75 percent of consumers are aware of the iPad long before its commercial release planned for April. Even more notable is that 47 percent of consumers who identified themselves as "intended netbook buyers" will wait and see the iPad before making a netbook purchase. A total of 8 percent say they plan to purchase the iPad instead.

The results are similar for eReaders. Nearly one-half (49 percent) of consumers who identified themselves as "intended eReader buyers" will wait to see the iPad before making a purchase decision. Approximately 17 percent of these consumers are planning on purchasing the iPad instead.

Nate Hoffelder is the founder and editor of The Digital Reader: "I've been into reading ebooks since forever, but I only got my first ereader in July 2007. Everything quickly spiraled out of control from there. Before I started this blog in January 2010 I covered ebooks, ebook readers, and digital publishing for about 2 years as a part of MobileRead Forums. It's a great community, and being a member is a joy. But I thought I could make something out of how I covered the news for MobileRead, so I started this blog."

  1. Yep, all this campaign is treating customers as almost imbeciles. That comparison between netbook and iPad is a great proof of a total lack of understanding of both segments and user profiles
