Jointech announces 2 new e-readers

I was just browsing the Jointech website today, and I discovered that they are now showing 2 new ereader models.

You might recall that Jointech released 2 ereaders last year, the JE100 and JE200. The 2 models were based on the same 7" LCD touchscreen and ran WinCE 5.0. They also supported quite a few ebook formats: Mobipocket, MSReader, MSOffice, PDF, Flash, CHM, CBZ, and more.

Jointech built on what  they learned with the JE200 and improved the design. The JWin700 and JAnd700have have the same screen and general physical shape as their predecessors, and they also have a more powerful CPU, a newer operating system and built in Wifi. The JAnd700 runs Android, and the JWin700 runs WinCE 6.0. Here are the hardware specs:

  • CPU: ARM 667 MHz
  • LCD touch screen, 800 X 480 resolution
  • WiFi 802.11b/g
  • microSDHC Card slot
  • USB Host port
  • 2 speakers
  • dimensions: 18.2cm x 11.7cm x 1.45cm
  • weight: 250 g
  • battery: Li-ion 3.7V (2A)

I just heard back from Jointech. The projected retail for the 2 new ereaders is $299, and Jointech is currently shipping samples to prospective distributors and retail partners.

Nate Hoffelder is the founder and editor of The Digital Reader: "I've been into reading ebooks since forever, but I only got my first ereader in July 2007. Everything quickly spiraled out of control from there. Before I started this blog in January 2010 I covered ebooks, ebook readers, and digital publishing for about 2 years as a part of MobileRead Forums. It's a great community, and being a member is a joy. But I thought I could make something out of how I covered the news for MobileRead, so I started this blog."
