Asus to launch $599 eeeTablet in October

Digitimes are confirming that Asus will release the eeeTablet in October in Taiwan. I'd already heard about this  from a reliable source; it's good to have more detail.

We now also know that the eeeTablet will have a wireless connection; Aus is in talks with Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile, Far EasTone, 3 of Taiwan's biggest cell carriers.

Hardware details on the eeeTablet are less than complete. We know it has an unique 8" LCD touchcreen that was made by Chimei Innolux (CMI). Screen resolution is 768x1024 and there is no backlight. It also has a microSD card slot and a 2MP camera.

Nate Hoffelder is the founder and editor of The Digital Reader: "I've been into reading ebooks since forever, but I only got my first ereader in July 2007. Everything quickly spiraled out of control from there. Before I started this blog in January 2010 I covered ebooks, ebook readers, and digital publishing for about 2 years as a part of MobileRead Forums. It's a great community, and being a member is a joy. But I thought I could make something out of how I covered the news for MobileRead, so I started this blog."
