Elonex 500EB, 500FB will be supported by the Freebook ebook library

Elonex announced a bunch of tablets and ereaders last week at IFA. I thought these 2 were worth noting. Elonex pulled a rather interesting trick with the 500EB and 500FB. You see, they're actually the same device.

This ereader has s a 5" LCD screen (no touchscreen, no wifi), 1GB or 2GB Flash, SDHC card slot (32GB supported), as well as support for AVI, MP3, Epub, TXT, and html. Retail is 79GBP for the 500FB and 99GBP for the 500EB.

The only difference between the 2 is that the 500EB has more Flash storage (2GB) and comes with Adobe DE support. Both ereaders will have the support of Freebook, a free ebook library that Elonex plan to launching in October. They're boasting 1m titles for the free ebook library.

I 'm not sure how good the library will be, but I am at least a little impressed. Elonex are making a serious attempt to get into the ereader market. They have quite a few ereader, a free library, and (I mentioned this elsewhere) they're currently negotiating a contract with a major distributor.

Nate Hoffelder is the founder and editor of The Digital Reader: "I've been into reading ebooks since forever, but I only got my first ereader in July 2007. Everything quickly spiraled out of control from there. Before I started this blog in January 2010 I covered ebooks, ebook readers, and digital publishing for about 2 years as a part of MobileRead Forums. It's a great community, and being a member is a joy. But I thought I could make something out of how I covered the news for MobileRead, so I started this blog."
