Viewsonic to launch 3 tablets in Russia

What's really interesting about this is that I can only find mentions of 2 of the tablets for the US and European markets.

On Tuesday Viewsonic announced 3 new tablets in 5", 7", and 10" for the Russian market. We've of course seen the Viewpad 7 and Viewpad 10 before, but I don't think they plan to release the M5 elasewhere.

The Viewpad M5 is based on a 5" screen and runs Android 2.1. It also has a 3MP camera as well as Wifi, HDMI out, an accelerometer, USB Host, and a card slot. Retail will start at $500 (yes, I know).

BTW, you can already get the Archos 5IT in Russia ($300), so yes, that price is ridiculously high even there.

Viewsonic's other tablets ave been covered elsewhere extensively, so I don't see a need to repeat old news. But I was a little surprised at the retail prices quoted at the press event. The Viewpad 7 is going to sell for $800, and the price for the Viewpad 10 hadn't even been set yet (I'm afraid to even think about it).

Everything quickly spiraled out of control from there. Before I started this blog in January 2010 I covered ebooks, ebook readers, and digital publishing for about 2 years as a part of MobileRead Forums. It's a great community, and being a member is a joy. But I thought I could make something out of how I covered the news for MobileRead, so I started this blog."
