Archos have an e-reader?

Jbmm.fr came across this odd looking device in Hong Kong. It has the Archos brand on it, but I’m certain this is a knock-off (for 2 reasons). I’ve seen the menu on other generic Chinese gadgets, for one. And my other reason is that this doesn’t look like Archos hardware. Get it at your own risk, folks.

Right now all I know is that it runs Android and has a 7″ screen. I would strenuously urge you to avoid it.

What’s wrong with Chinese makers collaborating on customizing Android for cheaper LCD based e-readers and for Archos to brand one to release in EU/US markets?

The only advice I have to LCD e-reader fans, is to ask for Pixel Qi to be used in these devices, would turn them into the best e-readers.

For one thing, "7o" is how Archos are writing "70". At the very least this one has the wrong label on it. And it simply doesn’t look like an Archos device.

Archos would be insane to do that. They’d be better off pushing the 70 as an eBook device. It has Aldiko pre-installed, IIRC.

I’m sorry to tell that you are wrong, this is a TRUE archos device. If you go to archos web page and register a new device, the archos 7o ereader appears on the list (I have one myself)

Now it’s clear I’m wrong, but this post was written in October. Back then we didn’t know for sure.
