LG Display, iriver to demo new e-reader at CES?

I'm still not sure this one is for real. There was a news story on the Korean business blog AsiaE a few days ago which talked about the iriver Story HD, the new ereader that LG Display and iriver were going to show off at CES next week. This ereader is supposed to have a 6" epaper screen with a 1024x768 resolution, Wifi, and a Freescale CPU. It's the first model produced under the partnership of iriver and LG Display.

There's a couple problems with this news report. First, iriver aren't exhibiting at CES 2011. If they had this new ereader, don't you think they'd be there in person? LG will be there, though, and I couldn't get a definite statement out of the pr rep.

My other problem is that so far as I know LG Display don't have a 6" screen with that resolution. It wasn't in their booth at SID Display week back in May. They did have a 6" screen, yes, but the resolution was 800x600.

But consider the screen resolution. This new screen has about 223 pixels per inch. The current 5" E-ink screen is 200 pp, so the new screen is only a marginal increase pixel density. That stated resolution could indeed be correct. Let's see what happens next week at the press conference.

Everything quickly spiraled out of control from there. Before I started this blog in January 2010 I covered ebooks, ebook readers, and digital publishing for about 2 years as a part of MobileRead Forums. It's a great community, and being a member is a joy. But I thought I could make something out of how I covered the news for MobileRead, so I started this blog."
