How to download Overdrive ebooks to your computer

I came across a video a few days ago that show how to get Overdrive ebooks onto your ereader. My local library doesn’t have ebooks so this is a topic I couldn’t write for myself.

Before you watch the video, you might want to check to see of your library supports ebooks. You can search on the Overdrive website. And it’s probably redundant but I just want to make sure that you know that Overdrive ebooks don’t work on the Kindle.  Amazon won’t let it happen (so far).

While we’re on the topic, I found a couple cheat sheets you might want to download (here and here). I think they’d make handy reference tools in case you get stuck in the process.

  1. Your title is more than a little misleading. You can not download to an eReader from OverDrive but you can Transfer from your PC or Mac using Adobe Digital Editions. Perhaps you can change your post title so it’s not so misleading?

    Thanks.

  2. I downloaded the Android Overdrive app and it does allow me to download library books directly to my Nextbook2 (the “new” Android 2.1 now being sold on HSN). I don’t have a local library that has ebooks, but the Military libraries do provide ebooks. Not a lot, but enough. Hopefully they will expand their catalog soon.

  3. I have been trying to download Overdrive Reader Works Standard for the last few days but not successful. The site has given link to another site for downloading ReaderWorks. But the link is ultimately leading me only to Over Drive Media Console and NOT to Reader Works. I did not have this problem when I downloaded last time.

Can any one help me how to down load Over Drive Reader Works?
