Overdrive iOS, Android apps get an update

Overdrive have released a new version of the Media Console app today.  With this app you can listen to MP3s and read Epubs that you've checked out of a participating library.

Both the Android and iOS app were updated today. The Android app got  a new UI and the ability to lock orientation. The iPhone app got performance enhancements and the ability to read third party Epubs.

In other news, Overdrive have updated the Virtual Branch website. You can now search and download ebooks from Project Gutenberg (DRM-free). Eh. I've been bugging them about adding other sources (Feedbooks, for example). The automatically converted ebooks at PG are some of the worst I've seen anywhere.

You can find the iOS app in iTunes and the Android app on the Overdrive website.

Nate Hoffelder is the founder and editor of The Digital Reader:"I've been into reading ebooks since forever, but I only got my first ereader in July 2007. Everything quickly spiraled out of control from there. Before I started this blog in January 2010 I covered ebooks, ebook readers, and digital publishing for about 2 years as a part of MobileRead Forums. It's a great community, and being a member is a joy. But I thought I could make something out of how I covered the news for MobileRead, so I started this blog."
