Marvel Comics now available on Chrome

Yesterday Marvel Comics announced that they were selling digital comics in a new ebookstore based in the Chrome browser. They're offering 1600 titles  for single issue purchase.

Marvel Comics on Chrome is the next step of Marvel’s commitment to making high definition digital comics available to users anytime, anywhere,” explained Ira Rubenstein, Executive Vice President, Global Digital Media Group. “We’re sure users of the Google Chrome Web browser will love this digital comics experience.”

Curiously enough, this new store is only somewhat compatible with Marvel's existing iOS apps - the compatibility is only one way. If you buy a comic in the Chrome Store it can't be read in the iOS app. But any comic purchased in the iOS app can be read in Chrome.

Do you think this is a technical problem, or is this an Apple problem? Food for thought: the iOS app is by comiXology and they _really_ believe in "buy once read anywhere". If this were a technical issue I think comiXology would hold the Chrome Store until it got fixed.

Nate Hoffelder is the founder and editor of The Digital Reader: "I've been into reading ebooks since forever, but I only got my first ereader in July 2007. Everything quickly spiraled out of control from there. Before I started this blog in January 2010 I covered ebooks, ebook readers, and digital publishing for about 2 years as a part of MobileRead Forums. It's a great community, and being a member is a joy. But I thought I could make something out of how I covered the news for MobileRead, so I started this blog."
