Wattpad to release app for HP Touchpad

Wattpad announced today that they are working on a new app for WebOS. This app will be specifically developed for the Touchpad, and they expect it to be out by the time the tablet hits the market. From the press release:

Wattpad, the world's most social eBook community continues to expand their leading mobile presence with the announcement that a Wattpad application will be available in time for the release of the HP TouchPad.

The Wattpad app is downloaded over 1 million times per month across 1000 different devices as readers search out new content and ways to connect with their favorite authors and other readers. Last month, Apple included the Wattpad app in its list of Top 100 Apps of all time and Wattpad has been the number one free eReading app on BlackBerry's App World for over a year.

"The TouchPad application will be the first application designed specifically for the HP Palm product line. We continue to see strong uptake on our existing tablet offering and are looking forward to connecting readers as new tablet offerings become available" explains Allen Lau, CEO and co-founder of Wattpad.

Wattpad attributes the phenomenal success of their existing apps to readers' desire to have a more enriched reading experience that integrates other popular online social tools. Known as YouTube for eBooks, Wattpad has experienced explosive growth, with traffic increasing by 300% in 2010.

The Wattpad HP TouchPad application will be available for download on the new tablet offering as well as the HP Veer and Pre3, when the TouchPad launches later this year.

Nate Hoffelder is the founder and editor of The Digital Reader: "I've been into reading ebooks since forever, but I only got my first ereader in July 2007. Everything quickly spiraled out of control from there. Before I started this blog in January 2010 I covered ebooks, ebook readers, and digital publishing for about 2 years as a part of MobileRead Forums. It's a great community, and being a member is a joy. But I thought I could make something out of how I covered the news for MobileRead, so I started this blog."
