Smart Devices to release a true iPad clone

The Chinese tablet maker Smart Devices have recently announced a new 9.7" Android tablet. It's not just the same size; they're boasting that the R10 Ten uses the exact same screen as the iPad. The R10 Ten will be running Android v2.2, and it will get an update to Honeycomb. The R10 Ten will have 3G, Wifi, an accelerometer, speaker, microphone, a microSD card slot, and possibly USB Host. There's no mention of a camera, so this really is an iPad clone.

I'd first heard about this tablet a couple months ago but it was only in the past couple days that Smart Devices updated their website with specific technical details on the touchscreen. This tablet has a unique piezoelectric touchscreen; Smart Devices are boasting that it will support multi-touch with both fingers and a stylus. That does open up some interesting possibilities, doesn't it?

This tablet is supposed to be available now, but I haven't found a seller.

Everything quickly spiraled out of control from there. Before I started this blog in January 2010 I covered ebooks, ebook readers, and digital publishing for about 2 years as a part of MobileRead Forums. It's a great community, and being a member is a joy. But I thought I could make something out of how I covered the news for MobileRead, so I started this blog."
