PopCap Games coming to the Amazon Appstore Exclusively

Amazon have pulled another exclusivity deal. PopCap Games are coming to the Amazon Appstore tomorrow, and their next 2 Android games (Chuzzle and Plants vs. Zombies) will be sold there exclusively.

Here's the interesting part. Amazon are only getting the games for a 2 week exclusive. In comparison, their ebook exclusives are on open ended multi-year contracts.

The difference is curious, but not surprising. The Amazon Appstore is limited to the US, which means an open ended exclusive would cost the developer income earned by selling to the rest of the world. Plus I suspect Amazon believe most of the income is earned in that first 2 weeks; they could be right.

  1. Amazon also might try to get its App Store installed on more Android devices by having short-time exclusives with very popular titles.
