Amazon now going after Apple

Anything you can do I can do better

Amazon launched their second app store on Thursday. The Mac Download Store has 250 titles, including productivity, finance and games. What a waste of bandwidth. I've downloaded any number of apps, but it's not my first choice. Mac and Windows apps are often times too fricking huge. I mean, I can understand offering downloadable Android apps, but some of the Mac apps that amazon are selling measure in GB. Think of the bandwidth that takes up each time you have to download it.

The last time I set up a PC, I collected the installers for all my usual apps on a couple DVDs. It took 9 hours to download everything, and I didn't want to have to download them a second time if I could avoid it. And those were just the free apps; I still had the install discs for all my paid apps. I shudder to think how long it would take to download and install all of them.

I'm not a Luddite folks; I just want to keep the bandwidth for important things like video and lolcats.

Everything quickly spiraled out of control from there. Before I started this blog in January 2010 I covered ebooks, ebook readers, and digital publishing for about 2 years as a part of MobileRead Forums. It's a great community, and being a member is a joy. But I thought I could make something out of how I covered the news for MobileRead, so I started this blog."
