Treelogic Arcus 701 7″ e-reader coming soon

Our old friend the Skytex Primer ebook reader has shown up again under a new brand name, this time in Russia. This is a very basic ebook reader and media player, and I liked it in spite (or perhaps because of) its simplicity.

It's based on a cheap but quite usable 7" (800x480) screen, and it's running on a Rockchip RK2729 with a microSD card slot, 2GB Flash storage, speakers, and a microphone. The Russian model also has a FM Radio.

The one I had was a marginal ebook reader, but it was also a decent media device. The screen quality was pretty good, with no frame dropped or fuzzy. Since it's a Rockchip device, it also had broad audio &video support as well as decent ebook format support.

The Arcus 701 is selling now in Russia for 2990 rubles (~$109 USD).

Nate Hoffelder is the founder and editor of The Digital Reader: "I've been into reading ebooks since forever, but I only got my first ereader in July 2007. Everything quickly spiraled out of control from there. Before I started this blog in January 2010 I covered ebooks, ebook readers, and digital publishing for about 2 years as a part of MobileRead Forums. It's a great community, and being a member is a joy. But I thought I could make something out of how I covered the news for MobileRead, so I started this blog."
