Effire to launch 2 new e-readers in October

The ebook reader market continues to explode in Russia today. (Let's see, where's my passport...) Effire will be launching their third and 4th  ebook readers soon, and this time the gadgets will have LCD screens.

The TR 701 is a basic model with a 7" (800x480) resistive touchscreen, 4GB Flash, a microSD card slot, but no Wifi. It comes with broad format support, including: ebook: FB2, TXT, PDF, PDB, EPUB, HTML, RTF; image: JPEG, BMP, GIF; Audio formats: MP3, WMA, WAV, OGG, APE, FLAC; and video: MKV, AVI, RM, RMVB, MP4, WMV, MPEG, DAT, FLV.

It's not clear what OS this ereader is running, and the touchscreen makes me wonder if it might be Android. But it also has a 400MHz CPU, so I don't think so.

The TR 401 is a bargain basement model with a low-res 4.3" (480x272) resistive touchscreen, 4GB Flash, a microSD card slot, but no Wifi. It has similar format support to the TR 701.

Retail prices have been set at 2,990 rubles (~$ 108USD) and 1,990 rubles (~$ 72USD).

Nate Hoffelder is the founder and editor of The Digital Reader: "I've been into reading ebooks since forever, but I only got my first ereader in July 2007. Everything quickly spiraled out of control from there. Before I started this blog in January 2010 I covered ebooks, ebook readers, and digital publishing for about 2 years as a part of MobileRead Forums. It's a great community, and being a member is a joy. But I thought I could make something out of how I covered the news for MobileRead, so I started this blog."
