Last night HP sent me a shipping for the long delayed TouchPad order I placed with them (damn, all the way back in August). It looks like the long, drawn out death of the HP TouchPad is about to reach a conclusion this week.
HP had told us back in early September that the orders were delayed; they had vastly oversold what few TouchPads that they had on hand. Given how poorly everything else had gone, I half expected HP to cancel the order quietly while hoping I wouldn't notice. Luckily that's not the case.
My order is due to arrive on Friday and I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it. One of the tablets is already spoken for, but the other has no home yet.
I think I'll hold on to it and see if anyone at B&N, Amazon, or Kobo would be willing to trade the TouchPad for an early look at their new tablet ( B&N Acclaim, Amazon Kindle Fire, or the Kobo Vox). I think that's a fair deal; the TouchPad has a dual core CPU, 32GB Flash, Wifi, 2MP camera, Bluetooth, and it is probably better hardware than any of the upcoming tablets.
