Nielsen has just released their latest consumer survey, and it's not much of a surprise. This time around Neilsen asked American consumers what they did while watching TV. If you're a tablet owner and TV watcher then you can probably guess how people responded.
I don't watch live TV anymore, so I was a little surprised to learn how many still do.The full set of results is over at the Nielsen blog, but the highlights include:
- 69% use a tablet while watching TV
- 61% check email while watching
- 47% visit a social network
If you ask me, they didn't ask enough questions. I read while watching TV shows or movies, and I also check RSS feeds, blogs, do other work stuff. Probably lots of other people do the same, but we don't know that because it's not covered by the survey.
I'd also like to see Nielsen do a poll on how the weberati watch TV. Unlike live TV, I can pause what I'm watching and come back to it. This makes it far more likely that I interrupt my viewing with other activiites.
