Yotaphone to Enter Mass-Production in Singapore

phone2Russian gadget maker Yota Devices announced this week that their latest device, the dual sided Yotaphone, will go into production soon. This smartphone, which was originally announced in December 2012, has a 4.3" LCD screen and a 4.3" E-ink screen. It's going to be assembled by Hi-P, an OEM based in Singapore.

Yota’s COO, Lau Geckler, is in Singapore at the moment to sign the deal with Hi-P. While he is there he also plans to set up Yota’s second R&D facility and the company’s Asian sales office. Yota's original R&D center is in Finland.

The Yotaphone is running Android 4.1 on a dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon CPU with 2GB of RAM and a 12MP camera. The 4.3" LCD screen resolution is 720x1280 and the 4.3" E-ink screen resolution is 640x360.

There's no specific details on when this smartphone will hit the market, but it is currently expected to hit the market in Russia and Europe in q3 2013 and reach the US by the end of the year.

Everything quickly spiraled out of control from there. Before I started this blog in January 2010 I covered ebooks, ebook readers, and digital publishing for about 2 years as a part of MobileRead Forums. It's a great community, and being a member is a joy. But I thought I could make something out of how I covered the news for MobileRead, so I started this blog."
