The Morning Coffee – 5 June 2014

The one story you absolutely have to read this morning is from Publisher's Lunch. They correct a couple errors that many press have been making on the Hachette-Amazon contract dispute. The rest are good, too, but that one is key.

Nate Hoffelder is the founder and editor of The Digital Reader: "I've been into reading ebooks since forever, but I only got my first ereader in July 2007. Everything quickly spiraled out of control from there. Before I started this blog in January 2010 I covered ebooks, ebook readers, and digital publishing for about 2 years as a part of MobileRead Forums. It's a great community, and being a member is a joy. But I thought I could make something out of how I covered the news for MobileRead, so I started this blog."

  1. I can’t get to the Publishers Lunch piece but there’s this:

It’s seems to me that Cader may have gotten it wrong.

    • Good one.
So a return to full agency may in fact be under debate and it may be the reason for both the impasse and the DOJ letter to (only) the three publishers that settled early.

    • The PubLunch article is behind a paywall? Sorry, I didn’t know. I would not have linked to it in that case.

And yes, Rebecca’s piece is good too.

      • It wasn’t behind a paywall when you first posted it as I skimmed it back then. I was thinking something just didn’t sound quite right so I planned on spending more time on it this weekend. I should have printed it!
