The Morning Coffee – 4 August 2014

The reading list is short this Monday morning.

About Nate Hoffelder (10616 Articles)
Nate Hoffelder is the founder and editor of The Digital Reader:"I've been into reading ebooks since forever, but I only got my first ereader in July 2007. Everything quickly spiraled out of control from there. Before I started this blog in January 2010 I covered ebooks, ebook readers, and digital publishing for about 2 years as a part of MobileRead Forums. It's a great community, and being a member is a joy. But I thought I could make something out of how I covered the news for MobileRead, so I started this blog."

  1. I thought that “Building a Better Amazon” was a good idea but they went about it all wrong. They needed to be very careful and specific about what it is they want to do. It seems they were trying to democratize eReading, but they made an understandable mistake for writers, librarians, publishers… by concentrating on the text. The solution is to concentrate on the eReaders.

If they designed an eReader that is linked to every ebook selling source and developed a book review resource with a direct link, something that reviews independent writers as well as front listed books, add to that a search that displays prices at the different stores, it would make any particular store irrelevant. Paradoxically, this would turn the focus back on the text.

We all need to get comfortable with the fact that eReading is here to stay.
