Goodreads is Coming Soon to Kindles and Fire Tablets in the UK, Ireland

kindle goodreadsIf you're a Kindle owner in Ireland or the UK then I have some good news for you. Amazon announced on Monday that in the coming weeks, Goodreads will be available on Fire tablets and on Kindle ereaders.

The retailer is going to release a firmware update which adds support for Amazon's social network. The update will be pushed out over Wifi to all current Fire tablets as well as to the Paperwhite, Voyage, and basic Kindle.

The new firmware will let readers:

  • Share favorite passages with their Goodreads friends without leaving the book,
  • See what their friends are reading, read the reviews, and discover new books to read,
  • Immediately rate a book after finishing it without putting down their device, and
  • Keep track of all their reading activity.

Goodreads is currently available on Kindles and Fire tablets in Canada, Australia, the US, and now the UK and Ireland. Amazon is planning to expand support incrementally, adding that their goal is to "provide the Goodreads experience on Kindle e-readers and Fire tablets to as many of our members as possible".

Nate Hoffelder is the founder and editor of The Digital Reader:"I've been into reading ebooks since forever, but I only got my first ereader in July 2007. Everything quickly spiraled out of control from there. Before I started this blog in January 2010 I covered ebooks, ebook readers, and digital publishing for about 2 years as a part of MobileRead Forums. It's a great community, and being a member is a joy. But I thought I could make something out of how I covered the news for MobileRead, so I started this blog."
