For example, Amazon Prime members can choose one of four free titles published by Amazon (it's the monthly Kindle First offering). And for those of us who don't have Prime (me, to name one) there are other deals.
Tor.com announced the second title in its ebook of the month club yesterday. From now through the seventh of August readers can download Jo Walton's The Just City from Tor.com. (The free ebook is restricted to just the US and Canada, but sources tell me that Tor.com doesn't check IPs.)
Created as an experiment by the time-traveling goddess Pallas Athene, the Just City is a planned community, populated by over ten thousand children and a few hundred adult teachers from all eras of history, along with some handy robots from the far human future—all set down together on a Mediterranean island in the distant past.
You can download the ebook from ebookclub.tor.com, and if that's not your thing then perhaps you might want this month's free Kindle-Audible pairing.
Each month Amazon gives away a different public domain ebook with a matching free audiobook. This month's free bundle is The Last of The Mohicans.
While guiding a small party of English settlers to the protection of a fort during the French and Indian War, Hawkeye, a frontier scout, and his two Indian friends, the remaining braves of the Mohican tribe, struggle against the evils of Uncas who desires a white maiden for his wife.
If you are unable to get the Kindle-Audible offer, you can also find the ebook just about everywhere. LibriVox has the audiobook.
