Asda now selling cheapest e-reader in the UK – £52

Now if only it could have been a good one, too.

The UK discount chain  Asda have just started selling a £52 ereader. The View Quest Mediabox is based 5″ LCD screen and lacks Wifi or a touchscreen. But it does have 2GB Flash, a SD card slot, a speaker, as well as an impressive list of format support:

  • eBooks: ePub, PDF, FB2, TXT, DOC, PDB, HTML, WTXT
  • Music: MP3, WMA, FLAC, AAC, WAV, OGG, APE
  • Video: WMV, RM, AVI, RMVB, 3GP, FLV, MP4, DAT, VOB, MPG

I recognize the hardware. This ereader has shown up in the US and Australia (as well as other countries). In the US it was sold by Delstar, and it was a pretty bad ereader.

But on the upside, it’s using a Rockchip CPU so it might  have decent video abilities.
