3.5 million Brits received an e-reader for Christmas

A couple days ago the UK Publisher’s Association released some data on ebook and ereader sales over Christmas. A full 7% of respondents said that they got an ereader for Christmas 2010. Now, assuming the UK population adult is around 50 million, that means somewhere around 3.5 million ereaders were sold over Christmas. It’s a little higher than I’d expect, but that number is certainly possible.

Nearly 84% of those who got an ereader have also downloaded an ebook in the past month, and 3 out of 5 paid for the ebook. New ereader owners were also more enthusiastic downloaders than iPad or smartphone owners, paying for an average of about 6 ebooks each.
