Pirate Downloads a Man’s Brain and Deletes the Original

You’ve probably seen any number if anti-piracy PSAs. Here’s a new one that I think is rather funny (I’m still not sure if it was meant as a joke).

I’m laughing at this video because the situation is rather absurd. If you accept the SF aspect if the technology, you have to ask yourself how likely is it that a pirate would put that much effort into stealing the content.

I can only see this happening in cases of industrial espionage, and that’s so far removed from your garden variety pirate that conflating the 2 ideas is a little silly.

On the other hand, I know several people who would make this kind of argument in all seriousness, so i can’t tell if it’s a joke.

I fail to see what this has to do with piracy. They don’t understand what piracy is, nor why it happens.

Piracy will not stop until issues such as troublesome DRM and high prices have been resolved.

Don’t you realize the guy in a stocking cap isn’t a pirate? When they copy things they leave the original and don’t deny the original creator his ideas.

The only entity capable of stripping an original creator of the use of his original ideas and obliterating all records of it is a CORPORATION.

Your missing the point. (Or you don’t want to admit the guilt of stealing content.)
It’s all about loss.
Sad.

(Thanks for sharing. I will re-post it, as it was intended. Good job.)

If I missed the point then it only happened because the way he made the point is bizarre and frankly wrong. Nothing is removed when you pirate content; it’s merely copied.

If I were going to write a PSA on piracy, I’d begin with something like a painter who just finished his greatest masterpiece. He calls his agent and says, "I just finished it. Nobody has ever seen anything like this before." During the night the mind burglar comes in and takes a photo of the painting and leaves. The next morning the artist sees his painting everywhere. In shops, on the sides of buses, etc. That still kinda misses the point, but at least it would lend serious thought to the argument against piracy instead of this idiotic strawman argument.
