Chrome laptops are the hot new fad

The Australian tech retailer Kogan have just unveiled their first  laptop running ChromeOS. You’re not going to want it; it’s an off-brand model with specs that are at least a couple years out of date.

The Agora 12 is running on a 1.3GHz Celeron-M CPU, with 1GB RAM, 30GB SSD, Wifi, Bluetooth, and as you can see it has a decent set of ports. Battery life is a measly 3.5 hours, and it’s retailing for $349 AUD.

I’m sorry, but this laptop is junk.  The design is so old that it’s not even using an Atom CPU. What dark recesses of a warehouse did they pull these out of before slapping ChromeOS on them?

The sad part is, we’re going to see more like this. It looks like Chrome laptops are going to replace Android tablets as the hot tech fad. Bleh.

    You raise a very interesting point. But do you really think it’ll be effective? I mean, users of the “newest and greatest” tend to also have knowledge of the old and “bleh”–do you think anyone would buy these?

    Another interesting perspective: do you think that maybe these are, for the company, a safe way to see if there is a demand for ChromeOS before investing good hardware into it?

    Regardless…Google is taking over the world…

    “the last tech fad was Android tablets”

    What are you talking about? Even if Android tablets are a fad, we are in the middle of it. It’s far from over.

      The initial wording of that sentence was “crappy android tablets”. I’ve seen far more than I;ve written about.

      let me go rewrite that.
