iOS 5 will bring reading to the not-so-small screen

I’m still digging through all of Apple’s announcements yesterday, and I found another one.

Among the many features of iOS 5 is one that could be rather interesting. Airplay is going to be expanded from just videos to include support for all IOS apps. (Airplay is the tech that lets you send video from an iPhone or iPad to an Apple TV. ) This means that you’ll be able to open the Kindle app on your iPad and then use Apple TV (at right) to show the app on your television.

I;m not sure how much good it would do for text, but picture books will probably benefit from this new feature. And I’m looking forward to seeing what this does to games.

Well, that’s one feature that’s clearly pitched at the educational market. Could be rather handy for an English class, or indeed any other language!

Hmph, that’s provided the Kindle app survives past the end of this month. So, iBooks. And all those book apps. Interesting. It will bring a whole new dimension to some books for kids. "Ma! I wanna watch my book on the TV!"

This post has video demoing mirroring. Unfortunately it’s all video and to a rather unimpressive-sized TV too!

Is there a reason for the first generation apple tv pic? I’ve given up hope that there would ever be any updates to the first gen device.

I used it by mistake and then left it in as a joke.
