Nook Touch has a hidden web browser

One early Nook touch buyer has uncovered a hidden feature. It’s not listed on any feature sheet, but the new Nook Touch has a web browser.  The MobileRead user super16 is reporting that:

If you type in a URL under Search on the Nook Simple Touch, it launches a web browser. I’m not sure if this is an oversight or a feature that they’re going to refine, but it’s good to know given that the lack of a web browser seems to be a deal-breaker for some. I didn’t notice anyone else bring it up, but if it’s already been discussed here, please disregard.

A later poster confirmed it:

Awesome! I can confirm this does in fact work as well. Searching goes to whatever URL you specify, and then a web browser opens where you can click on links OR type in another URL if you wish.

… Interesting, indeed.

Could someone want to put it though its paces and tell what features it has? I’d love to know.

Just made it a viable alternative to the kindle. Awesome dude, thanks!

The touchscreen, the SD slot, the lack of that craptastic keyboard, the size, and the format that allows you to get ebooks from a bunch of sources weren’t good enough reasons for ya?

Myself, I’m looking for all those plus one another feature – ability to do handwriting annotations to ebooks and taking notes using such device. I think Sony PRS-950 has it all working properly (haven’t touched one though), but for its price I’d also want the embedded 3G connection to work in Europe.

I’m still waiting for my 'dreamed of' device, without blocking bugs, feature complete and tested well before releasing to market (vide PB603)

As a five day new owner, I find this is great news! However, I can’t make it work. Which search bar do you use? What exactly would I type in to access say, Lifehacker .com? The only two searches I find are "search Nook", and "search shop".
