Digitimes is back again with another unsubstantiated rumor.
This time around they’re reporting that their “sources” told them that everyone’s seeing a large demand from Amazon for components.
Amazon reportedly has held talks with TPK Holdings, Wintek, HannStar Display and J Touch for the supply of touch panels, indicated the sources, noting that Amazon targets to ship four million tablet PCs before the end of 2011.
And then there’s the rumor from today that Amazon will ship 1 million tablets next quarter:
Among orders from non-iPad vendors, those from Amazon are said to be the most positive, with demand for touch panels likely to reach two million units for the August-September period, the sources indicated, noting that shipments of tablet PCs to Amazon are expected to reach 1-1.2 million units by a conservative estimate in the third quarter.
But before you get excited over this rumor, you need to keep in mind all the other rumors. For example, Digitimes told us back in May that Quanta would be making the Amazon tablet. If that rumor were true, then Quanta would have ordered the parts already. So these touchscreen components are going where, exactly?
If I see 1 more contradictory rumor I’m going to stop believing in the Amazon Tablet.
