More details emerge on the Philly newspapers and the bundled Android tablet Amazon Newspaper Earlier today I posted about a couple Philadelphia newspapers (Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia Daily News) and their plan to bundle a digital subscription with the purchase of an Android tablet. Greg Osberg, president of Philadelphia Media Network (parent company of the newspapers), held a press conference this afternoon with more details.

Brad Linder of Liliputing made it to the conference and asked a bunch of questions. He also shot a video of part of the event.

Here's what we know so far. There's no word yet on price or which tablet will be bundled, but it is one currently on the market. Both details should be announced in the next couple months. But Greg did say that it will be a Wifi only model, and there might be a 3G/4G model in the future. The bundle offer will combine a 1 to 2 year digital subscription to to either paper or the Inquirer Android app with the tablet and cost about  half what it would separately. There's also going to be an iPad app this fall, and it will have its own subscription.

The pilot is scheduled to launch in August, and it will include between 100 and 100k tablets for subscribers to buy.  The pilot program will wrap up in time for an official launch on Black Friday (after Thanksgiving).
