Android TouchPads now in the wild (video)

A few days ago I posted a video showing a HP TouchPad, fresh out of the retail box, running Android. Considering that the TouchPad was supposed to ship with webOS 3.0, it was something of a shock.

I didn’t think the video was legit at the time, but it now looks like it was. A second Android TouchPad has shown up, and this one is running Android v2.2. In fact, one of the Android TouchPad owners has even pulled a system dump and uploaded it to RootzWiki.

I’m shocked.  But I’m also thrilled. I’d much rather have Gingerbread running on my TouchPad, and now it looks like that will happen a lot sooner than expected.

I’m shocked. I really didn’t expect this to be the real thing.  But I’m also thrilled. I’d much rather have Gingerbread running on my TouchPad (arrives tomorrow), and now it looks like that will happen a lot sooner than expected.

Great… you’re doing it to further sadden those unlucky ones like me, right? 😉

I can’t wait to read your thoughts on the Touchpad. Do you know when HP will start shipping?

The Cyanogen Mod crew are on the job. They’ve got an early Alpha build running.

Give’em a couple weeks and they’ll have the TouchPad cracked wide open.
At that point we’ll know if the TouchPad issues are software- or hardware-based.
