Mike Cane tipped me to an official HP statement on The Next Bench blog. HP plan to make one last production run of the TouchPad with the goal of filling all outstanding orders.
Despite announcing an end to manufacturing webOS hardware, we have decided to produce one last run of TouchPads to meet unfulfilled demand. We don’t know exactly when these units will be available or how many we’ll get, and we can’t promise we’ll have enough for everyone. We do know that it will be at least a few weeks before you can purchase. See more information in the updated FAQs below.
This is great news if you still have an unshipped order. Your chances of getting one just went up. But I have to say that I’m surprised; based on the fact that mine won’t ship for another week I expected that the TouchPad would never be available again.
BTW, if you want the most up to date info then you should follow this Twitter account.
Now, they’re only going to make a limited number and the production run will be over by the end of October. So the best way to get one would be to have already signed up to get a notification email. That was one of my suggestions last week. If you signed up for the email list then you should be getting an offer in an email
for a one-time exclusive chance to buy a TouchPad.
Update: Apparently the offer isn’t for a TouchPad. It’s just a chance to get a good discount on a large order of HP products. I’d like to thank Fritz for posting this info on The Digital Reader’s Facebook page. I always appreciate updates.
I hope you get one, it’s a nice tablet.
