HP to Make More TouchPads

Now I know why the term ZombiePad has started showing up; the TouchPad isn’t quite dead yet.

Mike Cane tipped me to an official HP statement on The Next Bench blog. HP plan to make one last production run of the TouchPad with the goal of filling all outstanding orders.

Despite announcing an end to manufacturing webOS hardware, we have decided to produce one last run of TouchPads to meet unfulfilled demand. We don’t know exactly when these units will be available or how many we’ll get, and we can’t promise we’ll have enough for everyone. We do know that it will be at least a few weeks before you can purchase.  See more information in the updated FAQs below.

This is great news if you still have an unshipped order.  Your chances of getting one just went up. But I have to say that I’m surprised; based on the fact that mine won’t ship for another week I expected that the TouchPad would never be available again.

BTW, if you want the most up to date info then you should follow this Twitter account.

Now, they’re only going to make a limited number and the production run will be over by the end of October. So the best way to get one would be to have already signed up to get a notification email. That was one of my suggestions last week. If you signed up for the email list then you should be getting an offer in an email for a one-time exclusive chance to buy a TouchPad.

Update: Apparently the offer isn’t for a TouchPad.  It’s just a chance to get a good discount on a large order of HP products. I’d like to thank Fritz for posting this info on The Digital Reader’s Facebook page. I always appreciate updates.

I hope you get one, it’s a nice tablet.

Have fun with that Notify site. I signed up under three email accounts. Apparently only one signup made it through.

i think I’m gonna have to write hp a thank you letter because..
after 2 weeks of desperately trying to get my hands on 1 of their bargain bin touchpads ordering 1 and then getting my order kicked to the curb
i got so sick of seeing the prices of regular priced tablets that i said screw it and went looking for a new desktop instead and what i found by comparison to the tablet hype that’s gripped the world for the past year and 1/2 is pretty amazing.
i found a intel quad-core i5 2500 cpu desktop with 8 gigs of ram for $30 less than an ipad 2 16 gig.
sure the new android pricing is a bit cheaper than what i payed but damn i forgot how much i wanted a new real computer and not some damn toy to lug around that can barely compete with cellphone processors.
post pc era my ass i don’t think I’m going to bother looking at another tablet till it can compete with the price and functionality of bare minimum laptop computers(no not netbooks)
thanks hp for turning me off from another over priced fadware
