Pocketbook Unveil 612, 912 E-readers at IFA (video)

Pocketbook held a press conference in Berlin yesterday. They formally launched the A10 tablet I showed you yesterday, and they also launched 2 new ebook readers.

The PB 612 and PB 912 are the next generation models for their current 6″ and 9.7″ ebook readers. Each is largely the same as the current model but they have a few refinements and improvements.

According to the press release, the 612 and 912 are still using the older Vizplex E-ink screen. They have Wifi/Bluetooth, a touchscreen, 2GB Flash storage, a microSD card slot, speakers, and a headphone jack. They ship with an on device ebookstore, Pocketbook’s own Bookland.net. It also has text-to-speech, a web browser, and an estimated 1 month battery life.

I’m still waiting to hear back from Pocketbook on price and availability, but I’m not sure that I’ll like what I hear. The current models are rather expensive for the US market ($220 for the 602, $380 for the 902), considering that (in the US at least) this is one of the lesser known brands.

The press conference is in German and English. I’ve listened carefully and I don’t think those details are mentioned.
