First Look at the Jetbook Color (video)

Hey folks. I’m going to be going to NYC tonight for the Amazon event tomorrow, and that means my posting schedule will likely be erratic. So here’s a video to tide you over until things get back to normal.

The Jetbook Color is a new 9.7″ ebook reader from Ectaco. It’s the first ebook reader to use the new color E-ink screen. It’s not going to hit the US market until December, but when it does the retail will be about $350 ($30 less than the KDX).  It has Wifi, SD card slot, stylus equipped touchscreen (similar to Wacom)

. Ectaco are currently developing the Jetbook Color for the Russian, US, and other markets. It’s going to be a digital textbook platform, and in fact that’s how it is being used right now in Russia. I’ve had my hands on it, but that one wasn’t a working model.

My next e-ink will be color. I’m not sure I want anything other then Amazon or B&N though.. Not sure I liked the interface but its probably not final yet.

Other wise, this should point to color not being to far away.

Oh my god. That is SO SLOW. And that screen is shit.

Mike, I’m anxiously awaiting a comment from you that reads something like: "Yayyy!!!!Great device. Perfect implementation." Well you get the idea :).

The color Ectaco is certainly the best implementation so far of color eInk that is actually available at a somewhat reasonable price and probably no worse than the original K1 was, which, I believe, you gave faint-hearted praise to.

I’ll grant that LCD is faster and sharper/brighter color than the eInk, but then you gotta want an LCD screen.

I can deal with the 50’s magazine like colors it displays, but the contrast on black text would have to be on par with my K3. That thing is beautiful to look at and read on.

I’m looking to get a color eink unit for my son. He’s obsessed with it and i really cant wait for him to try it in school. The video is great too and i like how ectaco is aiming to introduce the jetbook color here soon

The fact that it is ACTUALLY being used in schools in Russia tells us something about its credibility. Ill be the first to admit i’m not a big fan of the K-12 they just put out but this one seems legit.
