Gadmei to Demo T863 Tablet with 3D Display at CES 2012

Next week Gadmei is going to show that just because something’s cheap doesn’t mean it cannot be built around good hardware.

I’ve just found the product listing for the T863-3D Android tablet. As you can guess from the name, this tablet is equipped with a 3D display. It’s running Android v2.3 on a 1GHz CPU with a Mali400 GPU, and along with the 8″ 3D screen it also has pretty decent hardware specs.

It has Wifi, a VGA webcam, 8GB Flash storage, a microSD card slot, USB Host, and HDMI out. There’s no mention of Android Market, and I’m not sure what apps this tablet ships with. But the listing does mention that the touchscreen supports 5 points, and that puts the T863 above most budget tablets.

Gadmei is boasting that this tablet can display both 3D videos and pictures. It also supports videos with resolutions up to 1080p, but of course you cannot see that on the tablet itself (screen resolution is 1280×768).

I’ve long since gotten over the fad of 3D content, so I’m not sure what value this tablet will bring. But that’s okay, because you can find it for only $199 at USB Brando. It has decent specs for that price, so even if you never used the 3D abilities you’d still have a decent tablet. If nothing else, you can use the speakers, mike, and camera for video chat.

But don’t take my criticism of 3D too strongly; I’m definitely planning to see this tablet at CES. I’m not going to give up on the idea until after I see it in practice.
