Sony Reader App Now Available for (Some) Android Tablets

A few months back Sony released a new version of their reading app for Android tablets, only they did a rather odd thing: it was only available for Sony’s new tablets.

A few weeks back I noticed that they’d finally relaxed their restrictions and decided to allow other Android tablet owners to download the app. But once again, there’s  catch. You have to be running Android 3.0 Honeycomb or above in order to get this app. Apparently Sony believes that there aren’t any tablets running on Gingerbread or older versions of Android so there’s no reason to support them.

Eh. I’m not bothered by this, not really. It’s just another sign of Sony not really knowing what they’re doing. Also, there’s really not much of a point for most people to get this app; you only need it if you shop there, and hardly anyone does.

It’s not available to all HC devices either. It’s not compatible with my Flyer (and I’m running HC 3.2.1)
