Dark Horse Comics Come to Kobo, Nook – Unintentional Hilarity Ensues

I’m rather busy at the moment but I wanted to share something funny with you today.

Dark Horse Comics put out a couple press releases today. They are now distributing digital comics to Kobo and B&N (good for them), and in what has to be a truly unfortunate coincidence, both press releases came out today.

I’m busy today, but out of curiosity I glanced over the press releases and they sounded remarkably alike. If you’ve read press releases before then you know that they usually use over the top language.  Everyone says really nice things about their new partner, puppies are cute, and other tripe like that.  There’s a script to this, and most follow it.

Today’s humor comes from the fact that both press releases followed that same script. The following 2 statements are taken from the press releases, and they were supposedly said by the same person.

“Kobo is the perfect partner for Dark Horse. Like us, they’ve established themselves on a basis of innovation,” says Matt Parkinson, Senior Director of Marketing for Dark Horse. “We couldn’t be more excited to reach new readers around the world with some of the most exciting and dynamic storytelling that our comic titles offer.”

“I can’t think of a better partner than Barnes & Noble, the leading retailer of digital content and media and the folks behind the number one chain of bookstores in the country.”

I cannot help but giggle at how the marketing dept showed their ass. I always knew these things were made up by some marketing  drone, but I never expected to discover that Kobo and B&N used the same drone.

This almost makes up for the many, many press releases I’ve had to read over the years.

It is probably because Dark Horse wrote the press releases and not Barnes and Noble and Kobo. Being in business, our company writes press releases too that are distributed by the intended parties.

Perhaps. In that case the guy may have done it as an intentional joke (I would have). Still funny.
