The Nook Touch in the Great Beyond

Here’s a novel use for the Nook Touch. One outdoorsy hacker has loaded a map app onto his Nook Touch. He’s using Back Country Navigator Pro with topo maps that he’s downloaded over Wifi.

This a great idea; the E-ink screen on the Nook Touch makes it ideal for use outside. Any LCD based Android device would need the back light turned up, and that kills the battery quickly. The NT will far outlast any tablet for this purpose, and just imagine how useful it would be on a couple week long trip.

On the other hand, this also shows the short-sightedness of not giving the NT Bluetooth. If this thing had BT then it could also do GPS, and that would double its value.
