The Pew Research Center has just released a new report today. According to their latest survey, which was conducted in May 2013, a full 34% of American consumers  now own a tablet of one kind or another.

This is a not insignificant increase over  the January 2013 report that showed 31% of respondents owned a tablet, and it is almost double the ownership reported in May 2012:

This report also confirmed that certain demographics were more likely to own tablets than others:

  • Those living in households earning at least $75,000 per year (56%), compared with lower income brackets
  • Parents with a minor child living at home (50%)
  • Suburbanites (37%)
  • Adults ages 35-44 (49%), compared with younger and older adults
  • College graduates (49%), compared with adults with lower levels of education

A total of 2,252 American adults were polled for this survey. The interviews were conducted over the phone in late April and early May 2013. Later sections of the report also revealed that women, African-Americans, and college educated are adopting tablets faster than other demographic groups.

P.S. In case you’re wondering about ereader ownership, there was no data. We’ll jut have to wait until the next report is released.
