New Nexus 7 Fairs Well Against iPad Mini in Torture Tests (video)

square trade drop test 1Square Trade got their hands on Google’s new 7″ tablet last week and immediately set about abusing it. This tablet turned out to be sturdier than both its predecessor and the iPad Mini.

The 3 tablets were put through a drop test, a slide test, and a drown test.  The new Nexus 7 was the only tablet to come through all 3 tests relatively unscathed.

As you can see in the video, both the older Nexus 7 and the iPad Mini suffered screen damage in the drop test. The iPad Mini also failed the slide test (it slid of the table and on to the floor), probably due to its slippery backside. And in the drown test, both the iPad Mini and the older Nexus 7 lost their audio, while the new Nexus 7 worked just fine. The older Nexus 7 appears to have rebooted itself after it was drowned, but I don’t know if it was still functional.

I don’t know about you but I’m a little surprised at the results. The new Nexus 7 doesn’t look as sturdy more sturdy than its competition and I didn’t expect tat it would perform so much better.

It looks like the warranty I got with my unit was a waste of money darnit.

Holding it in landscape is thumb-friendly, and the narrow form factor allows for a one-handed grip in portrait even if you have relatively small hands.  Oh, and it’s apparently very durable. […]
