Prestigio Launches New Low-End eReader in the Russian Market

130718070020403904[1]The global ereader market is trending towards devices with newer screen tech and faster CPUs, but some ereader makers are bucking the trend.

The European gadget maker Prestigio unveiled a new budget ereader last week which features a 480MHz CPU, 6″ E-ink screen, and not much else.

The MultiReader 3664 runs a Linux-based reading app on an AllWinner E200 CPU with 4GB of storage, a microSD card slot and a 6″ Pearl E-ink screen (800×600 screen resolution). eBook support includes Epub, FB2, Mobi, PDF, PDB, and this ereader can also display HTML, DOC, TXT, and RTF files.

This ereader lacks a touchscreen and Wifi, but it is equipped with a g-sensor which detects orientation and can rotate the screen contents. It weighs in at 162 grams, making it one of the lighter 6″ ereaders on the market.

It’s expected to retail for 2700 rubles, or about $83 USD. That will make it one of the cheaper ereaders in that market, but not the cheapest nor the lightest. There are other budget devices available in Russia, including one with a 4.3″ screen and a price tag of 2499 rubles.

No EPUB?? (I wasn’t able to find any information on supported formats on the web site.)

By the way, I can’t get your links to work (I get a TDR 404 page with, e.g., https://the-digital-reader.com/2013/09/12/prestigio-launches-new-low-end-ereader-russian-market/www.prestigio.com/catalogue/MultiReaders/MultiReader_3664#/product-overview?article=PER3664BC in the address bar). I’m currently browsing with Firefox 23.0.1 in Windows 7.
