Exetech XS-3 Smart Watch-Phone is Shipping Soon – 349 Euros (video)

Smartwatches aren’t turning heads just in the US; an Italian startup called Exetech has just released their first model, one which is a true smartwatch and not a smartphone accessory.

The XS-3 is capable of working entirely without a paired smartphone, and that sets it apart from leading models like the Samsung Galaxy Gear and the Pebble. It’s equipped with a 1.54″ screen (240 x 240 screen resolution), 2GB of Flash storage, a 2MP camera, and the XS-3 can even make phone calls (SIM card required).

The XS-3 runs Android 4.0 on a dual-core 1GHz MTK 6577 processor. It weighs in at 90 grams and has a 450mAh battery. There’s no info on how long this smartwatch runs between charges, but I do know that it recharges via a standard microUSB port.

This watch also has an internal microSD card slot, GPS, Wifi, Bluetooth,  and a g-sensor. If you wondering how Exetech managed to get all this hardware into such a small package, I have to admit that I don’t know.

In terms of apps, you should be able to run standard Android apps and it will ship with Facebook and Twitter clients as well as a fitness app.

The XS-3 is supposed to be available now, but I can’t find a place to order it. According to Notebook Italia retail will be 349 euros.

That is an impressive price given the small size of Exetech and the even smaller market. In comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Gear costs $299. If we fudge the currency conversion we end up with a European price of 299 euros for Samsung’s smartwatch accessory. The XS-3 is much more capable and only costs a nominal 50 euros more, making it a much better deal.
