Microsoft Launches Office for the iPad

It’s true. office ipadMicrosoft is officially launching MS Office for the iPad.

The app is pretty much everything I had assumed it would be. Like the existing Office apps for iPhone and Android, the new app includes the ability to create and edit Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files, and it has the same OneDrive integration as the iPhone app.

It’s a free download but it also requires an Office 365 subscription. This costs $6.99 a month for a single user license and $9.99 (and up) for a multi-user license. You can find the app in iTunes.

7 x 12 = $84 a year. That is almost as much as a single copy of Office for Student and Home (which was a one time fee) used to cost. I wonder how many people will bite?

Holy cow, that’s really expensive!

They will need to discount the price by at least 50% before consumers are even tempted.

I suspect that their main audience would corporations looking for something to be added to the Microsoft bundle. So it’s in MS’s interest to keep the sticker price high so that any "concession" will seem to be considerable…..

As someone who uses MS Office a lot as a technical writer and is interested in MS office and interoperability, I couldn’t envision paying more than 2 or 3 dollars a month for a tablet office suite.

You’re forgetting that (a) a lot of companies are switching to Office365 so its effectively free to the individual user,my company is, and (b) Office364 is for any platform, so that $84 includes the mac and windows versions as well (or Surface if you have one)
