Oyster Adds a Little Magic to Its Subscription eBook Service

oyster logoWhen it comes to kids books, there are the cherished classics, new favorites, and other popular titles, and then there is Harry Potter.

Oyster, which recently announced that it offers unlimited access to more than 1 million ebooks for $10 a month, has just announced it’s adding the Harry Potter series to its catalog. Readers can now enjoy the seven Harry Potter novels as well as the three Hogwarts Library ebooks (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Quidditch Through the Ages, and The Tales of Beedle the Bard).

While we’re only talking about 10 titles, this is still a big win for Oyster. While these ebooks are available via Kindle Unlimited, they’re not available from Scribd, Oyster’s direct competitor.

To celebrate the additions, Oyster has also added new reading themes. The "House Themes" were inspired by Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff, and readers can tap the Sorting Hat icon to have one chosen at random.

The Harry Potter series may be small in absolute numbers, but this deal could dwarf Oyster’s last big news; a few weeks ago Oyster (as well as Scribd) added 1,000 backlist titles from Macmillan, the 5th or 6th major US publisher to sign with an ebook subscription service.
