The 100 Biggest Copyright Infringers, According to Google

If you’re looking to download some illicit music tonight, Paul Resnikoff of Digital Music News has pulled together a list of the best places to find pirated content. He’s crunched the DMCA takedown notices sent to Google, and compiled a list of the top one hundred worst offenders, and you’re in for a surprise.

When it comes to digital piracy, the Pirate Bay may get the most press but it’s not even in the top ten on this list. Instead, the more active sites are all file hosting sites like rapidgator, 4shared, etc.

Obviously this is not a true list of the 100 biggest pirate sites. There’s no real way to measure that, so instead Resnikoff counted the number of DMCA notices copyright holders sent to Google to get a URL removed from its search results.

We also don’t know how many of the URLs actually lead to pirated content (ridiculously invalid DMCA notices are not uncommon) but since this list was never more than a curiosity in the first place, that is not an issue.
