Helicon to Unveil Cloud Reading Platform at Frankfurt Book Fair

epubcloudBetween Page Foundry, txtr, OverDrive, and Snapplify, there’s no shortage of ebook providers offering a complete _DRM_ ebook platform (*). And now there’s one more.

Over the past several years Helicon Books has developed Epub3 reading apps for Android and iOS, and a browser-based app, and now they’re ready to tie it all together.

The Israel-based ebook startup will be showing off their ebook platform at Frankfurt Book Fair early next month. The EPUB Cloud Reading System is a whitelabel ebookstore platform that combines all of the expected features of a modern ebook platform, including a store (in the Android app) platform-wide syncing of bookmarks and reading location, DRM protection, and automatic delivery of purchased ebooks.

Ori Idan, Helicon Books CEO says: "Our technology which is aimed mostly to digital book stores owners and publishers tries to expend digital books reading and sales, which make our systems unique and sophisticated."

Helicon Books can be found at Hall 6.2 C12 during the Frankfurt Book Fair.

P.S. And those are just the platforms that support DRM; if we drop that requirement then the field get crowded fast (Aer.io, Gumroad, etc).

Out of curiosity, I downloaded the iOS version of their reader to try it out. Limited is about the nicest thing I can say about it. Only one font (sans serif) and missing many features readers have come to expect. If they want to offer themselves as an alternative to Amazon, they are going to have to do a lot better than that.

I have a similar low opinion of their Android app.
